Chinese Brocade

A baijian in its general sense is a small ornament on display on the wall, table or floor. Our brocade baijian feature images with special meanings at the center. They fall into four categories--the major three bends, the book-form two bends, the small three bends, and the lidded box. The images include small front-view dragon, red plum blossoms, millennium dragon, small flood dragon, Peking opera masks and bixie.

The vertical scroll is a form of mounting for traditional Chinese painting. In the middle is the painting, and the width of the border should go well with the size of the image. Usually, the top border should be 2/5 longer than the bottom border, and the left and right borders should be two cun (about 6.6 cm) wide each. The vertical scroll is the basic form of mounting for traditional Chinese painting, being the basis for other forms, such as zhongtang, diaoping, hengpi, hand scroll and album. Brocade vertical scrolls differ from common vertical scrolls in having brocade images with special meanings in the middle, such as bixie, kylin, and the Dragon and the Phoenix. They can be used to decorate homes and offices.
